World-wide glacier changes
Glaciers and small ice caps shrink all over the world – a feature frequently quoted as a clear sign of global warming. But is there a simple relation between temperature and the size of glaciers? In this lecture Johannes Oerlemans from Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research Utrecht (IMAU), Utrecht University, The Netherlands, will explain how glaciers work. Measurements on and nearby glaciers have revealed the processes that determine the response of glaciers to climate change. With a basic knowledge of glacier dynamics we will then look at glacier fluctuations worldwide, and try to
