Paralympic gold medallist awarded honorary degree
Paralympic gold medallist and Solent graduate, Helena Lucas MBE received an honorary degree of Doctor of Sport from Southampton Solent University today (Friday 22 November), in recognition of her outstanding contribution to sport.The Southampton sailor made history at London 2012, becoming the first ever female winner of the male dominated 2.4mR Paralympic class and Britain's first ever Paralympic sailing gold medallist. Having raced a 470 since 1997, she switched to the 2.4mR Paralympic class in 2003 and claimed her first 2.4mR Worlds medal – silver – in Perth, Australia in 2006.
